Caption reads: "The only and largest island in the world that can be owned in it’s entirety by an individual or corporation. A Mid-Pacific Principality of one hundred and six thousand acres of good land, with twenty thousand sheep, fifteen hundred cattle, two thousand hogs and three thousand horses. The ISLAND OF LANAI is one the seven Hawaiian group located sixty miles from Honolulu, U. S. A." Today, this island is owned for 97% by David H. Murdock, chairman & chief executive of Dole Food Co. Inc., fruit and vegetable giant. Murdock personally took control of the property from Dole in the late 80s.
